homework - Precipitation of citric acid by CaCl2 and Ca(OH)2?

I need to precipitate citric acid from an aqueous solution in the form of calcium citrate. There are, to my knowledge, two different methods of doing this:

  1. using CaClX2 and which will react in an unknown way

  2. using Ca(OH)X2 which will react as such:

2CX6HX8OX7(aq)+3Ca(OH)X2(s)CaX3(CX6HX5OX7)X24HX2O(s)+2HX2O

Does anyone know the pros and cons of each method and how the reactions occur with the first method?
