homework - Precipitation of citric acid by CaCl2 and Ca(OH)2?

I need to precipitate citric acid from an aqueous solution in the form of calcium citrate. There are, to my knowledge, two different methods of doing this:

  1. using $\ce{CaCl2}$ and which will react in an unknown way

  2. using $\ce{Ca(OH)2}$ which will react as such:

$$\ce{2C6H8O7(aq) + 3Ca(OH)2(s) <-->Ca3(C6H5O7)2 . 4H2O(s) + 2H2O}$$

Does anyone know the pros and cons of each method and how the reactions occur with the first method?
